Laminate flooring has grown significantly in popularity since Pergo was introduced in the United States back in 1994. Since then, many manufacturers have have added laminate flooring to their product mix.
Laminate Flooring is usually composed of 4 layers; the backing, a high density fiber board, the decorative laminate and the overlay.
The decorative laminate layer is printed with custom images such as wood grains, stone, tile, sand or several other custom designs. High resolution printing on the laminates usually results in a truer, more realistic product that is typically more visually appealing. Higher resolution images and printing will provide an amazing look, but will tend to be a bit more more expensive.
Laminate flooring is significantly less expensive to purchase and install than hardwood flooring. And, unlike hardwood flooring, laminate flooring is scratch resistant, easier to maintain and doesn’t require regular refinishing.
There are several grades of laminate flooring based on the final application. Commercial grade laminates meet guidelines for flammability and slip resistance while residential grade products are slightly less expensive and will provide years of durable wear in the home.
